Midlands Hockey appoints leading Dutch coach to top role

Midlands Hockey has announced the appointment of leading Dutch coach Mark Borgers as their Performance Manager, assuming responsibilities from June 1st 2018.

Mark and his wife Fleur will relocate to Hamilton from The Netherlands, where Mark has previously held coaching and performance management roles with leading clubs SV Kampong, Hurley, and Almeerse, and has coached junior and senior teams to national titles in one of the strongest hockey leagues on the planet.

Commenting on the appointment, Midlands Hockey Chairperson Stephen Stafford-Bush said: “We’re really excited to have Mark joining us. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience from his time in Dutch hockey, a strong commercial background, and a real passion for player and coach development. This is another big step forward for Midlands in our mission to bring outstanding coaching talent to the country and region, and to ultimately help New Zealand win on the world stage”.

Hockey New Zealand Performance Coaching Manager Simon Brill said: “To have Midlands Hockey secure someone of this calibre is extremely exciting for the whole sporting community. Hockey New Zealand sees these international connections as an essential part of growing our game, and this appointment is further proof of Midlandscontinued leadership and innovation in this area.”
