High Performance Programme

Objective

The main objective of the Midlands High Performance Programme is to provide a high performance training environment for our representative coaches and players.

Structure

The structure involves centralised training through the Midlands summer camps in December and January. It also involves the Midlands regional coaching clinics that are attended during April and May of each year. These are stepping stones to the Midlands U21 and the Midlands National Hockey League programmes.

Regionalised training

Regional coaching clinics take place at the players home association and are run by the Midlands coaching staff.

Coaching the coaches

Another important facet of the High Performance Programme is the coaching of coaches. Most importantly the filtering of international hockey trends into the key coaches within the Midlands region. In addition coaches will receive further education on the Midlands way of playing.

Hymie Gill – As a former NZ hockey representative Hymie has vast experience at the elite hockey level. Recently he has returned from Belgium where he was head coach of a successful Belgian League team.

Lincoln Churchill – Most recently, Lincoln has been coaching and playing in Germany where he has continued to build on his vast coaching experience. A member of the Midlands NHL side, Lincoln has the advantage of understanding the current demands on players whilst applying the recent trends of today’s game of hockey. Lincoln is the former development Officer for Canterbury Hockey.
